Have Plans for Summer Solstice?

Goddess Gathering Reborn 2019

If not, then why not come join the celebration at Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary at the 4th Annual Goddess Gathering Reborn?

This past weekend more improvements were made in preparation for the upcoming event. Here’s what our Coordinator, Mary T. Borden had to say about it:

“MANY, MANY THANKS to Dyagon Alley for donating funds to purchase stone for the muddiest spots in the road. I cannot thank Brian & Jaque’s son Ben & Brian for Brian Daugherty for bringing in 5 pickup truckloads of stone AND spreading them!! There are still a few more spots that need stone, however it is now drivable by more than just 4 -Wheel Drive vehicles!

“Many thanks to the folks that came out this weekend to push hard and get things prepped for Gathering! John Marzocchi did a lot more chainsaw work in clearing pathways of fallen trees & larger branches. Rhonda L Savage ran the Cub tractor & cart around picking up the cut logs and bringing them to Ritual Field for stacking in log racks. Jacque Daugherty kept all of us fed with an amazing breakfast! (NOTE :THIS IS NOT TO BE THE EXPECTED WAY OF THINGS! When you come help for work weekends you need to come prepared to fix your own meals. That includes bring your choice of food & a means of preparing it. ) She also graciously kept eyes on Sean which allowed me to help get some of the last mowing done.”

Here’s a couple picture of that work:

Stone at Ritual Field 6-8-19     Stone at Curve Top of Hill 6-8-19

Even though it’s too late to register by mail, you can register at the gate any day of the festival. There are prices for the entire festival and one day prices as well. It’s $60 per adult for the entire festival or $20 per day per adult. Children under the age of 18 are always free!!!

Cabin rentals are also available on a first-come, first -serve basis. The cost is $10 per adult per night.

An important message from our Coordinator:

“If you haven’t pre-registered for the event, but plan on attending -PLEASE contact Mary to let her know so that a suitable campsite can be cleared for you. Right now all of the regular, usually available sites have been claimed!
We look forward to seeing everyone at Goddess Gathering June 20th-23rd!”

There’s not much more I can add. If you’d like to get away, be out in Nature, and celebrate with like-minded people, then be sure to contact our Coordinator, Mary T. Borden at 740-241-9340 (If you text, please put “Raven-Wolf” on it.) for gate opening times and/or directions, if you need them.

We wish you a very Blessed Summer Solstice, wherever you may be!!!

Updates & Events

Goddess Gathering Reborn 2019

It’s hard to believe we are only a little over 5 weeks from the 4th Annual Goddess Gathering Reborn festival and Summer Solstice. Time is moving quickly forward and there’s still work to be done to get ready for the event.

Just a reminder: We encourage people to participate by presenting workshops or entertainment. Just like in previous years, if you’d be willing to do two 1-hour workshops or one hour of entertainment, you could get free admission! If you think this is something you might be interested in participating in, there’s a Workshop and Entertainment Application on the web site that you will need to fill out and mail in to be considered. You’ll find the link to it on the left side of any page toward the bottom. Questions concerning workshops and entertainment should be directed to Krista Hanson either by email at kmagicnrgs@aol.com (Please put “Raven-Wolf” in the subject line.) or by phone at 513-349-9197. The deadline for registering to present a workshop is May 20, 2019.

Vendors are welcome!!! There are no extra charges to vend at Goddess Gathering Reborn. Just register for the Gathering and tell us what you will be selling.

One last thing: Even though the deadline for discounted registrations has passed, if you would like to have all your paperwork done before you arrive at Raven-Wolf, we will be accepting mailed in registrations postmarked no later than June 3, 2019. Confirmation of your registration will be emailed to you. If you need a map to the site, let us know when you send the registration and we’ll email that with the confirmation.  The registration form can be found on our site under “Goddess Gathering: 2019 Festival Registration Form”

Memorial Day Weekend is a long camping/work weekend that will be happening May 24-27, 2019. If you’d like to get away, be out in Nature, and help out in the preparations, then be sure to contact our Coordinator, Mary T. Borden at 740-241-9340 (If you text, please put “Raven-Wolf” on it.) for gate opening times and/or directions, if you need them. As always, camping is free to children under 18 and to adults who lend a hand in the work to be done. There are a couple cabins for rent on a first come, first serve basis. Be sure to mention this to Mary, if you’re interested.

For those who may be unaware, Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary is a primitive, Pagan-owned & operated, 16 acre site about 20 miles east of Cambridge, Ohio. We hope you will decide to come see us and check out the peace and tranquility we have to offer.

Got Plans for This Weekend?

The Woods

If not, consider coming out to be in Nature at Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary. Here’s a message from our Coordinator, Mary T. Borden:

“Time for the next work weekend QUICKLY approaches! I’m already planning our menu for dinner along with the work to focus on THIS weekend! Work schedules and some personal events are putting us at the Land no sooner than Saturday! Please plan accordingly for weather. So far the forecast says partly cloudy for Saturday with rain again on Sunday… More MUD! NOT to make anyone squeamish, but we ARE RURAL, with our roads more on the primitive side – gravel & DIRT. When you have dirt & rain, you get muddy muck. Just keeping it REAL -If you don’t have 4-wheel drive, OR are a more timid driver your chances of getting STUCK in mud increase. Even people EXPERIENCED with driving here & HAVE 4-wheel drive do that on occasion (me included!). That being said, know that we never LEAVE anyone STUCK! We work together as a community to help each other out. Night temperatures are still below 50°F. Tent camping is possible, but VERY challenging. If you are a novice or beginner camper, I highly recommend taking advantage of our rental cabin at $10/person for the night.”

If you need to reach her for directions or to see if the cabin is available for renting, you can call or text her at 740-241-9340 (If you text, please put “Raven-Wolf” on it.)

As always, to show our appreciation for your help in getting the Land ready for festival at Summer Solstice and maintaining it later in the year, each time you come and help it counts toward a discount toward your registration for the 2020 Goddess Gathering Reborn festival.

Camping, other than cabin rentals, is free each and every work weekend for those who come and help out.

The deadline for early registrations that can save you some money, April 30th, is fast approaching!!! If you’re on a budget and saving money is a priority for you, then mailing in your registration for the upcoming 4th Annual Goddess Gathering Reborn could be important for you.

You’ll find the registration form on the web site. Scroll down to the “Pages” section and you’ll find it listed as “2019 Festival Registration Form.” We’ve include instructions for filling it out, in case you need them. Be sure to get it postmarked by April 30th!!!

The deadline for registering to present a workshop is May 2019.

Another Weekend Approaches!

DSCF0065

Have any plans for this coming weekend? The second weekend of the 2019 season at Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary takes place this coming weekend – April 12 – 14.

According to our coordinator, Mary T. Borden, the first weekend went well. They got some things done and scoped out what the Winter’s weather created that needs fixing up and repairing before this year’s Goddess Gathering Reborn happens at Summer Solstice in June.

As you can see from the pictures below, there are benches that need scraping and painting along with a lot of downed wood to be cleared and stacked. For those who can handle a chainsaw, or even a manual saw, there will be plenty to cut up. There will surely be other projects that are discovered that could use some help in completing.

RW - 3-31-19 (10)

RW - 3-31-19 (12)

Although the temperatures have come up since the last weekend there, it’s April and the weather is unpredictable with dips in temperature, wind, and rain always a possibility. (You know, “April showers bring May flowers.”) It’s always advisable to dress in layers and bring clothes for warm and cold or rainy weather. Sturdy shoes or boots along with gloves and a hat are advised.

If you decide you want to come out and help, please contact Mary T. Borden for directions and gate opening time information, You can reach her at (740) 241-9340. You can either call or text, but if you do text, be sure to put “Raven-Wolf” on it.

It’s also time to mention Goddess Gathering Reborn and getting registered for this event. Registration forms can be found on the web site under “Goddess Gathering” and then click on “2019 Festival Registration Form.” If you register before April 30, 2019, you can save some money!!! If you register for the whole event, June 20 – 23, 2019, you save $10 per person. Even if you can only attend for a day or two, you can save by registering early. It’s $15 per day per person instead of $20 after April 30th or at the gate. A savings of $5 per day per person. Children under the age of 18 are always free!

Vendors are most welcome and there are no additional fees or charges, other than admission, to come and sell your wares or offer your services to those in attendance.

We encourage people to participate by presenting workshops or entertainment.

One last thing to mention, for now, is that there is one cabin available for renting on both work/camping weekends and during the festival. Referred to, by us, as “Morrigan’s Cabin,” it will be available on a first come, first serve basis, at a cost of $10 per night for weekends and $20 per night for the Goddess Gathering festival. If you are interested, contact Mary T. Borden either by email at vesta13.mb@gmail.com (Please put “Raven-Wolf” in the subject line.) or you can call or text her at 740-241-9340 (If you text, please put “Raven-Wolf” on it.)

If you decide to come out and join us, camping (other than the cabin) is free. We hope you’ll decide to come out and join us!

3rd Annual Goddess Gathering Reborn

GG Reborn 2018 Logo 2

It’s a new year and the preparations for the 3rd annual Goddess Gathering Reborn are starting to take place already. The web site has been updated with a new “Calendar of Events” and the registration form for this year’s Goddess Gathering Reborn has been place on site and there is some new contact information on the “Contact” page as well.

Like the previous two years, if you register before April 30th, you will get a discount on your admission fee whether you register for the whole event or a few days. Children under 18 are still free.

If you notice, we’ve scaled back to four days this year. We’re still in the process of learning what you, the public, prefers when it comes to time spent at a festival. So this year, the Gathering will run from Thursday through Sunday.

Vendors are very welcome at no extra cost, other than admission. We do not ask for a percentage of your sales or charge vendor fees. If you would like to present a workshop or a performance of some type, please check out the “Workshop & Entertainment Application” form on the web site. If you are willing to do two 1-hour workshops or one hour of entertainment, you could get free admission! Check it out!

We also want to remind you, if you’ve never visited Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary, we are a primitive site. There’s no electricity and only a hand-pumped well with latrines as our bathrooms. Come prepared for a real chance to get back to Nature in this 16-acre wooded, primitive setting.

During this four-day event, there will be workshops, rituals, feasting, drumming and more. We invite you to come be part of this spiritual event.

Even before that, we hope you can find some time to join us for one of the work weekends before the Gathering. Camping is free for those weekends, if you’re willing to help get the Land ready for the event. Check out the Calendar of Events for the dates and what might be happening on those weekends. Be sure to contact Mary T. Borden, the Coordinator, for gate opening times and directions, if you need them. Sometimes weather can delay or cause a weekend to be cancelled, so contacting Mary ahead of time is beneficial to the enjoyment of your trip.

You can find us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/GoddessGatheringReborn or we have a group page – Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary, if you would like to join us there.

We’ll be publishing more information, as it becomes available here. If you would like to write an article for the web site, be sure to contact us. Until next time…

10 Days & Counting Until Goddess Gathering!

Hard to believe, but it’s true! Summer Solstice is just ten days away and so is the beginning of the 2nd Annual Goddess Gathering. After an absence of over ten years, we’ve returned to the sacred space known as Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary to celebrate the Solstice and we invite you to come join in the celebration!

We’ve already got people coming from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and, of course, Ohio. There’s still plenty of room on our 16-acre site for people looking to celebrate the Summer Solstice with like-minded people. So no matter when you decide you might want to check us out, you can register at the gate. There are prices for the entire event or day passes, if you just want to come for a day. Children under 18 are free.

DSCF0065

If you do decide to come for the entire event, and you’ve never been primitive camping, I’m sharing some information I shared a couple of years ago from a book called Roughing It Easy. The book was originally published back in 1975 and was authored by Dian Thomas. At the time, the Washington Post called it, “A camper’s bible!” Maybe that’s because it was written by an outdoor woman from Utah. All I know is it was and still is a valuable book to have around if you’ve never been camping or haven’t been in quite a while.

One of the valuable pieces of information she shares is how to make a bed roll, in case you don’t have a sleeping bag, have no one to borrow one from, and/or can’t afford to buy one. It goes like this:
*Tape a tarp on the ground and spread one blanket over it.
*Lay the outside edge of a second blanket down the center of the first so that it is halfway off the first.
*Lay a third blanket over the first and a fourth blanket over the second.
(If you desire more blankets, continue in the same manner.)
*If you desire a sheet, lay it down as the last blanket.
*To close the bedroll, take the outside edge of the top blanket and bring it to its other edge. Continue overlapping blankets until the bedroll is completely folded. To close the bottom, fold it under 3” and pin it in several places. (See figure below.)

Bedroll0001

My only addition to this is that, since a ground cloth is essential to keeping yourself and your bedding free of ground moisture, you should wrap the bedroll in that tarp. It will keep it clean and dry while you transport it. Sleeping on the ground is tough so you may want to bring an air mattress, cot, or at least a foam pad to put underneath you to make things a little more comfortable. Don’t forget your pillow!

The author has offered different lists for a camper, whether first time or seasoned, to consider – most are pretty practical, but things that could be forgotten. For example, under “Personal Equipment List”, she lists clothing, sleeping equipment, but also personal items like a comb, a mirror, towel, washcloth, toothbrush and paste. She also has a “miscellaneous” list that includes camera, chapstick, first-aid kit, flashlight (so important down on the Land), any meds you may take, pocket knife, sun glasses and a musical instrument (you never know what may happen around a bon-fire!)

She then moves on to her “General Camping Equipment” list. She makes two suggestions here: 1) take as little as possible; 2) take equipment that can be used in different ways and later discarded such as cans and foil. For basic equipment, she suggests:
*A hatchet or axe
*A blade saw or a string saw
*Tarps and/or ground cloths
*Ponchos
For fire equipment:
*A shovel and water bucket (in case of fire)
*Leather, heavy cotton or asbestos gloves (for handling hot objects
such as logs, pans, or foil-wrapped food placed in the fire for cooking)
Basic cooking equipment:
*A good skillet or Dutch oven
*A grill or grating (to place over the fire to cook)
*Can opener (don’t know how often this is forgotten!)
*Knives
*Spatula
*Toasting forks
Other suggestions include:
*A dish pan
*Dish soap
*Trash bags
* Paper towels
* Paper plates, cups, and utensils (especially if you don’t like dishwashing)
*Aluminum foil

The lists go on, but you get the idea and I’ve listed some very bare necessities that are often forgotten.

So what makes us so primitive? There’s no electricity of any kind, at this time. Plans for the future, when funds and hands are available, include solar for lighting and also for things like CPAP machines for those who need them when sleeping.

Although we do have one outhouse that is fitted for composting, we have two others that still await that conversion and are very much “outhouses”.

scan0008

Water on the Land comes from a hand-pumped well at the bottom of the hill close to Registration. Although the water has been drunk by those of us who have frequented the Land for decades, since it is an open well, we are required to post the sign you see below by the Health Dept. The water is good for drinking, cooking, and washing. If you feel you would rather not drink from it, then you will need to bring drinking water with you.

DSCF0131

Being a nature sanctuary, there are wild animals on the Land. Although there are no bear or large wild cats, there are raccoons, deer, squirrel and bats. In the case of the raccoons, you will want to make your food supply unreachable either by placing it in your car at night, with the windows rolled all the way up, or in a storage trunk or container that is “child-proof”. Raccoons are very clever and can open many types of containers when they suspect food is inside.

Raccoon Pants
We ask that you don’t bring any pets or animals with you. Our first priority is the animals that are already living and using Sanctuary Land. Besides, this is a celebration for humans. Bringing your pets along isn’t fair to them or to the other humans who may have allergies or fears concerning them.

Raven-Wolf does have poison ivy and poison oak on it. If you are allergic to either or both, you may want to start a regime of vitamin C to boost your immune system about a week before coming. Be sure to pack calamine lotion or any other treatments you use for such occasions, along with a small first-aid kit and something for headaches and just plain aches and pains from working hard. Bug repellent is also a good idea.

Poison oak, ivy, & sumac

We ask that anything you pack in, you pack out when you leave. Keep watch on all fires you build – make sure they do not flame so high as to burn the trees and make sure they are out when you leave. We very much appreciate your time, efforts and cooperation!

If you think you might want to come, and aren’t sure how to get there, contact us at RavenWolfNature@aol.com and we’ll email you PDF copies of 2 maps on how to find us!

Anticipation builds… Come join in the fun!!!

38 Days until Goddess Gathering!!!

DSCF0097

Time is moving so fast! Although the Winter was very gentle to the Land, there’s still work to be done to get ready . We welcome any and all who might want to add their energies to the continuing restoration of this sacred space.

There are two consecutive work/camping weekends coming up – May 19 – 21 and Memorial Day weekend – May 26 – 29. These are the weekends when a large portion of the maintenance and preparation take place for the upcoming Goddess Gathering event. Remember that camping is free for both weekends in exchange for your help .

The big project for the next weekend involves a dumpster and the disposing of many years of debris that accumulated while the Land sat fairly dormant. We consider this to be both a physical act and a magickal one as well. Not only does it help restore the Land to its former beauty, but it sweeps away the vibrations of the old to make room for the new. With this act of compassion and caring, Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary is reborn and opened to infinite possibilities of a new generation of magickal and nature-loving people.

RW Trash Pile

As you can see from the above picture, what must be disposed of has at least made it down the hill to where the dumpster will be delivered this coming week. All it takes now is willing hands to take it from this pile and place it into the dumpster so that it can be taken from the Land both physically and vibrationally. Your help would be most appreciated.

Besides this project, mowing, weed whacking, clearing paths, opening campsites, cutting wood, creating wood piles, and more are waiting for hands to help accomplish the tasks. Even cooking a meal for those working or sitting at the gate to welcome those arriving counts as helping out! Don’t forget that your help this year counts towards a discount to Goddess Gathering 2018!

So, if you’re looking for something to do for the next weekend or two and are willing to help out in exchange for free camping and discounts to the next year’s Goddess Gathering event, contact Mary T. Borden at marymom1@earthlink.net or 740-241-9340 for gate opening times.

Just a reminder to those who are thinking of coming to this year’s Goddess Gathering: You can register at the gate, but if you’d like to take care of the paperwork early, all mailed registrations must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2017 so we have time to send your confirmation letter and maps to you.

Calling All Pagans – Young and Old!!!

Goddess Gathering Reborn Logo

June 17-26, 2016

With only two weeks until the opening weekend of the first annual Goddess Gathering Reborn, I wanted to remind everyone that 24-hour Day Passes are available at the gate.

24-Hour Day Passes for $25!!! The perfect solution for those who:
1. have never been to a primitive camp site before and are not sure if they would like it;
2. have never been to a Pagan festival and aren’t sure about whether they would enjoy it;
3. have limited time and/or money but would still like to come and see what it’s all about.

And the perfect day to check us out? That would be Saturday, June 25th! Why? Because Saturday is our big event day:

1. Workshops
2. Main Ritual
3. Potluck feast following the ritual
4. Bonfire and drumming following the feast.

With a 24-hour Day Pass you can come in on Saturday, stay for the festivities and then camp for the night. A perfect way to get to know Raven-Wolf Nature Sanctuary, Goddess Gathering Reborn and all the people attending.

So, if a 24-hour Day Pass seems like something you might want to do, either email me (Samantha Herron) at Durga1974@aol.com or private message me on Facebook for directions to the site. We’d love to see you there! Come join us, won’t you?
